Dance Exams

he Cameron School of Dance is a member of the “British Association Teachers of Dancing” (B.A.T.D.) examining body from Great Britain. Our school has been involved in dance exams and professional certifications for the past 50 years in all branches of dance.

Our dancers are given the opportunity to take dance exams once they have completed the required syllabus. Examiners are sent from Great Britain to North America, Europe and Australia to conduct medal tests and professional exams. Our school boasts 30 active and non-active teachers in all branches of dance. All our staff are fully certified teachers or student teachers working towards their professional certification.

The exam process provides:

STRONG TECHNIQUES

The development of strong technique, artistry and quality of movement. Exams instill strong moral character, values and a passion for excellence.

DISCIPLINE

It takes a great amount of discipline to study theory and work hard in class to reach the technical requirement for each grade/medal level.

SELF ESTEEM

Achieving your goals heightens self-esteem and by doing this in a shared classroom environment it increases your students respect for and teamwork amongst fellow students.

RECOGNITION

With continued education into the Professional levels the student will achieve Membership in one of the most Recognized, Largest and Oldest Dance Organizations since 1892.

HOW IT WORKS

OPTIONAL

Dance exams at The Cameron School of Dance are optional. Generally the students who want to perfect their technique and work towards becoming a certified dance teacher will pursue exams. Dance exams are valuable because they provide the development of strong technique, artistry and quality of movement. Exams instill strong moral character, values and a passion for excellence.

OPPORTUNITY

Teachers evaluate students during the Fall session and at the beginning of the Winter session, teachers will send a list of recommend students to the directors of the Cameron School of Dance. Teachers recommend students based on various factors such as a) their technical sill level b) their understanding and memory of their required graded exercises and c) their artistry. In January, the dance school will then contact parents of all students who were recommended by their teacher to invite them to participate in the examination process.

EVALUATION

An examiner is flown in from Great Britain, every one to two years, to evaluate/examinate our dancers. Our exams normally take place in the winter sometime (February or March). They generally run over a 2 to 3 day period.

REQUIRED

Dancers must participate in our full dance season (Fall and Winter dance sessions) to be eligible, and to be recommended, for dance exams. There is a required dance uniform that they must wear during their exam but it is the same uniform we require our students to wear during their weekly dance classes. Dancers must be at least 5 years old to participate.

COST

There is a small cost associated with physically doing the dance exam (that is confirmed each year).

JOIN THE FACULTY

The Cameron School of Dance only invites candidates who are pursuing their dance exams to be a part of our faculty (staff). We want to ensure that our dance teacher assistants and Dance Teachers are qualified to teach, are interested in teaching and have worked (or are working towards) their professional exams. This is truly what sets the Cameron School of Dance a part from all other dance schools. A parent can have full confidence that their child is receiving high quality, competent instruction from teachers who have invested many years into their own training and teaching ability.

The B.A.T.D. is a Council of Dance Education and Training (CDET) Validated Awarding Organization
